Voilà! France once again makes branding look annoyingly effortless

Lés bleus trés chic. There are certain things France simply refuses to do badly. Cuisine. Fashion. Wine. Luxury goods. Add to this list, football branding and you just know Thierry Henry is out there somewhere smirking.

Following its disappointment at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the French Football Federation unveiled a refreshed visual identity this week. The update features an evolved cockerel, refined typography and a richer navy blue. It's not a radical departure, nor does it need to be. Instead, it quietly builds on decades of heritage without ever feeling trapped by it.

It's a balancing act most organisations spend months trying to explain in a launch video. France just seems to do it. Though they still did make a video just to rub it in. C'est la vie, right?

Call it confidence. Call it centuries of artistic heritage, or a certain je ne sais quoi. Whatever the reason, France continues to prove that evolution often beats revolution. The cockerel didn't need replacing. It just needed polish to align all national squads.

Meanwhile, branding teams around the world have reportedly begun adding more white space to their presentations, while including some french flair to their strategy documents by casually dropping “raison d'être” into meetings instead of saying “purpose”. Hoping sophistication might be contagious and have more heads nod in agreement.

Sadly, it appears je ne sais quoi still isn't something you can download from Figma Community. Touché France, touché.
