British management consultant Daniel Harper, 46, has turned a six-day family holiday in Majorca into a 1,700-word LinkedIn post after concluding the island's crystal-clear waters held a profound lesson about clarity in business strategy.
The post, which opened with the reassuring disclaimer "This isn't really about the ocean...", quickly revealed it was, in fact, entirely about business.
According to Harper, watching waves gently lap against the shoreline made him realise that "the clearest businesses, like the clearest waters, allow people to see what lies beneath." The revelation attracted six likes and left our editor’s eyes rolling when this story came across their desk.
Friends travelling with Harper say the holiday became increasingly difficult as virtually every ordinary experience evolved into executive thought leadership.
Breakfast at the hotel buffet became a lesson in "the importance of optionality." A delayed airport transfer demonstrated "why resilience beats planning." A child building a sandcastle highlighted "the value of strong business foundations."
"He couldn't just enjoy anything," recalled his wife, Sophie. "We'd order sangria and suddenly we were discussing organisational culture. We hired a paddleboard and it somehow became a metaphor for market positioning."
LinkedIn behaviour researcher Dr Elise Morgan said the condition has become increasingly common among middle managers and consultants.
"There's an almost uncontrollable urge to convince strangers that your family holiday fundamentally changed the way you think about stakeholder engagement," she explained.
"The business lesson itself is usually harmless. It's the determination to force one out of absolutely everything that's unremarkable."
